Torbrook

Residential Design

Starting as a simple Saltbox-style home, we were originally brought in to redesign the exterior of this home after a devastating fire. Sitting on an incredible piece of property overlooking the beautiful Annapolis Valley, we knew we wanted to put the “Modern” in “Modern farmhouse” and lean into a contemporary aesthetic that made sense with the geography and didn’t fight the bones of the house.

Once reimagined with new materials, front entrance, and garage doors, the snowball began. Our design work continued inside to update the stairwell with a new custom metal railing, which leads to the second level where we designed the master suite/ensuite, and borrowed square footage from a former guest room to create a generous new dressing room. Highlights of the master ensuite include a generous steam shower, soaker tub, custom millwork and a beverage center in the dressing room to allow for the ultimate spa experience.

Phase 3 of the project takes us to the main level with a substantial overhaul of the open concept kitchen/living room. With a neutral palette inspired by new honed natural stone countertops, we renovated the kitchen to accommodate new luxury appliances, increased the size of the island to better suit the proportions of the space, and repurposed square footage from a former coffee bar and pantry to allow us to integrate a large pantry and a paneled refrigerator/freezer. With the open concept in mind, we designed new TV millwork and completely furnished and styled the space to inject some strategic comfort and color.
