The Evangeline

Commercial Design

It’s always a thrill to be asked to put your mark on a local landmark. The Evangeline—long known as the first sign you’ve reached the Annapolis Valley—pairs its retro ’70s motel exterior with warm, modern interiors. We were tasked with transforming an unused four-bedroom unit into a five-bedroom retreat for larger groups seeking a boutique hotel feel.

With flexible architectural bones, we focused on minimal renovation and maximum style. Through exclusive sourcing and creative, budget-friendly materials, we leaned into the ’70s influence to deliver a high-vibe, memorable stay. Inspired by the maritime tradition of “colour-by-room,” each bedroom has its own distinct aesthetic that keeps guests coming back.

Phase two expanded the vision to Borden House, a separate dwelling on the property built in 1858 and childhood home of former Prime Minister Sir Robert Borden. Historic touches—from an Edwardian wardrobe with carved handles to the Borden children’s school notebooks now displayed in the Library—anchor the space in its heritage. Layered with bold colour and soulful textiles, the home now offers a warm, character-rich boutique hotel experience.
